Findings from the “Social Media Marketing Industry Report”

While I was doing research for my e-commerce mid-term paper, I found this interesting report – “Social Media Marketing Industry Report” on the WhitePaperSource website. I found the findings in the report are very interesting (or surprising?) and good to know, so think it might be a good idea to share.

According to the finding, the five most commonly used social media stars from Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube. Also, Twitter is used by 94% of marketers who have been using social media for years, followed closely by blogs. However, when asking those marketers who just getting underway with social media marketing, Twitter is the number one, and LinkedIn is ranked as their number two choice.

The other finding is about which social media tools marketers most want to learn more about. Social bookmarking site is the first one on the list, followed by Twitter. Among these marketers, small business owners are much more interested in understanding social bookmarking sites, while those over the age of 40 are much more interested in learning about Twitter.

Before reading this report, I did really believe that every brand in the world has been using social media marketing for a long while. Surprisingly, the finding shows that a significant 72% of marketers have either just started or have been using social media for only a few months

Regarding the time commitment of social media marketing, a significant 64% of marketers are using social media for 5 hours or more each week, and 39% for 10 or more hours weekly.

When asking about what are the benefits the marketers have experienced while using social media, 81% of all marketers indicated that their social media efforts have generated exposure for their businesses, and 61% indicated that through using social media marketing, their traffic is improving and subscribers are growing. Building new partnership is the third benefits these marketers pointed out.
