Steve Job’s on Flash: Pass
Steve Job’s has just posted a detailed open letter on Apple’s site lamenting the bygone era of Flash and how Apple will not support Flash on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
The main point from the letter remains that Apple “wants to provide the most advanced and innovative platform to our developers, and we want them to stand directly on the shoulders of this platform and create the best apps the world has ever seen.” They don’t want a third-party source to stand squarely in the middle and muddle the relationship between the developer and the platform.
Besides draining battery life, and distorting the functionality of a multi-touch operation system, Flash poses considerable risk to security and dependability. Moreover, Jobs decrees that web standards should instead be open and malleable in the interest of optimum performance.
Cheers to open web standards (like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript)!
