Massive Mobile

Just a few short years ago, the trend in digital communications was to go small.  Ben Stiller’s Zoolander parody of the microscopic cellphone became increasingly less of a joke and more of a reality.  Just as phones started becoming small to the verge of useless, the trend reversed.  Now phones are growing almost to large to use comfortably.  How big is too big?

The recently released Droid X boasts a 4.3 inch HD screen specifically formated to play movies with cinema quality.  The comparison for all smart phones – Apple’s iPhone – has only a 3.5 inch screen.

Granted, in the days of tiny mobile devices, making phone calls and p

laying Snake pretty much rounded out a cell phone’s capabilities.  Today, phones are being formatted for increased ease while surfing the web and consuming broadcast media – like television and movies.  at 4.5 inches, making phone calls are most certainly an after thought.

Do we really need cell phones that replace televisions?  Is Motorola going for a Niche market with this new device, Is the cell phone the new end-all-be-all

blenderization of all media, or is this an obnoxious and oversized
