YouTube Tops Facebook, Twitter, & All Social Media In User Satisfaction

Although Facebook has almost all kinds of garish statistics at their disposal, there is one significant measurement where, surprisingly, Facebook isn’t the one: user satisfaction. The new study from Netpop Research mentioned that YouTube bests the social networks, Twitter, Facebook, and all other social media contenders in the area of user satisfaction.

According to the report released by digital market research firm ComScore Inc, 174 million unique US viewers watched online videos in March 2011. Out of these 174 million viewers, Google sites led the list with 143.2 million visitors, driven mostly by YouTube.

Unsurprisingly, Facebook is the first social networking service that most people use. More than 70% of respondents saying they’d used the service in the last 7-10 days. YouTube is in second, with 49% having used it in the last week. But when it comes to user satisfaction, which is measured by the number of users who are probably to suggest the service to friends, YouTube beats Facebook. 50% of respondents said they would suggest YouTube to their friends. On the other hand, only 36% saying they would suggest Facebook.

So, what does it mean? Since people can enjoy YouTube’s service without having to create an account or log in–something Facebook can’t say at all, Facebook may face some unique challenge that YouTube doesn’t have– privacy issues. People are less to trust Facebook because it asks for far more personal data.

When it turns into social media marketing strategy, we can conclude that it’s easier to get buzz on YouTube, because people love the service and sharing. But when we want to target a more engaged consumer, Facebook might be the way to go–they’re choosy about how they use it and who they interact with because of there are a lot of personal data they’ve tied to their account.
