Google’s “Indoor” Maps

Google Maps is a widely known web and mobile based program that houses maps for numerous countries around the world. Some recent additions to the service include traffic info and satellite view, as well as the popular and somewhat controversial “street view.” With street view, users are able to see low-resolution images of many actual locations as they appear in real life.

It looks like Google is at it again, adding yet another feature to it’s popular maps software, this time launching it solely on Android devices. The new Indoor Maps feature is the result of a partnership with several U.S. airports and large retail chains like Macy’s and Bloomingdales. This new feature will enable users to better navigate these large buildings and will also give brands a new digital channel to connect with consumers. Look for this new feature of Google Maps to have a big impact on digital integration with physical stores as the program continues to grow.
