Candidate Puts 51% of Budget into Facebook ads and Wins
A candidate from Michigan seeking election of a seat in the Supreme Court made a last ditch effort by advertising on Facebook. Mary McCormick was behind in the polls because those running against her made a advertising push through traditional ads on television.
A last minute donation from a supporter allowed McCormick’s new media political consultant to jump to action. Just five days before the election, the Facebook ads went live and low and behold McCormick won the seat.
As we have learned in class an integrated campaign was beneficial. “It wasn’t that Facebook ads took her from zero to victory,” added Tift. “It was that the traditional stuff… had put her in contention, then the Facebook ads brought her home.”
