Embellishment on YouTube: Safe when it’s fake.

November 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Holy crap.  If this isn’t the best use of YouTube marketing, I don’t know what is.  For those of you writing anything about YouTube, consider this:

There are a few videos showing terrible things that can be done to iPads in this case the prove its worth beyond comprehension.  Billy Mays and Ron Popeil are jealous, I can feel it.  Can you imagine dropping a Ronco Food Dehydrator out of an airplane?  You’d need a lot of Mighty Putty to fix it and a ton of OxyClean if it hit someone on the way down.  Will It Blend guy, eat your heart out (will this case blend?).

This brings up an interesting point: if you’ve got it, flaunt it.  Chances are you’ll never drop your iPad out of a plane on purpose, but it’s important to show, and occasionally exploit your positives.  Remember those Toshiba commercials with the Impact Smart hard drives?  Sure, there are no such things as a zombies, but that weird guy down the street might scare you into dripping your laptop when you’re outside posting his picture on America’s Most Wanted’s Facebook page.

Extremes make us think, but don’t make them hit too close to home or you’ll scare people.

Niche Businesses Find a Home

I log in to facebook and see an ad for something I never thought about as a business, but man, what a great/horrible opportunity!  Are you having trouble finding the company you want at your local bar?  Need a quick fix after a dry spell?  Just get dumped and need a rebound?  Looking for a one-night stand?  Poor and need someone to buy you drinks?  Depressed and feeling like no one loves you?  Don’t hire a prostitute or a gigolo, they’re too expensive!  Hire a WingWoman!

Ok, I admit this is ridiculous, but it may come in hand once-in-a-while.  For $65/hour (minimum of 2 hours) you can ditch your friends and have a professional (yes, they’re trained!) help you out with a hook-up!  You don’t have to worry about paying for a ball-and-chain’s cab ride home or a person who drinks too much and completely spoils your buzz, and thus your night.  Exquisite use of the internet and marketing.  You can’t exactly advertise this on billboards or prime time TV, and most single professionals go to sleep too early to see the creepy hook-up call line commercials that play during infomercials at 2am.

Face it, online dating is the future.  With divorce rate at almost 50% and time running out, we just don’t have time to sit at a bar alone.  Now, you have help!  So swallow your pride, pay out the Benjamins, and have a good night!

Always remember to wear protection,

A start-up in Seattle had the idea to revolutionize how we experience a brand.  Will the “Play Brand Games, Win Prizes!” model work?

How SMS is helping Tanzania battle malaria

I originally heard a story about The Sudan using SMS to track cases of HIV and AIDS, but stumbled upon this while listening to the BBC Wold Service late at night.  I know there are several Health Communications students in our class and figured this might be an interesting read/listen.
