Online stalking just got easier, it seems

After reading several news stories about cyber bulling, I ended up on this website:  From this website you can submit an email address and for “$10 a month or $100 for the year” you can get updates from Facebook and MySpace about online interactions associated with any email address (presumably your kid’s).  And the service can be extended to cell phone numbers and text messages (probably for a pretty penny).  What?? I know my parents would love this, as would many others, but all I can think about is the potential for this service to be abused.  It creeps me out thinking that anyone with $10 a month can monitor my every move online, or have access to the phone numbers I dial. Now I don’t actually know how this works (I was too skeptical to even submit my own email address), but there must be some kind of security system to prevent strangers from accessing your information.  I don’t know, I’m not all that excited that this website exists, but I’m sure it could be beneficial (that is, if it’s not a scam).

Google Ads- health

As a future health communication specialist- I’m probably going to want to use some interactive marketing strategies in my work.  But I kind of think the healthcare industry is a little slow on adopting technologies to facilitate the dissemination of health campaign messages.  The exception seems to be Twitter and Facebook which are growing in popularity to the extent that social media experts are needed in health organization (and are being hired which is great because I can probably always market myself as a young, social media geek).  But there are so many other outlets that are being overlooked.  I don’t think health organizations have considered how to use Google search terms to draw people to health education/outreach websites or how to design websites to meet audience needs. 

So I found this Google Ad when I was doing research for a paper on clinical research participation.  It makes sense that clinical research recruitment would benefit from going online to reach interested volunteers. 

The only problem is that there isn’t a lot of room in the ad to explain what clinical research is – which is the question everyone has. I really hope in the future I can work this marketing angle into my job.

Viral Videos

Since discovering in class that making a viral video would be a poor business generating platform, I can’t stop noticing how everyday wannabes are benefiting. I’m a little slow when it comes to internet gossip and watching the latest youtube sensation, but this caught my eye on ->

This guy Christiaan Van Vuuren, an aspiring rapper, filmed and posted some “viral” videos during his hospital stay which caught the eye of some movie producer. Now he’s being asked to promote feature films and he’s raking in the dough!  I’ve watched a few other videos that Christiaan has posted on youtube, and really all I can say is that I like his Australian accent….
